Within both Leverage and Leverage: Redemption, certain terms are used either to describe a con, procedure or other situation. They are different than the phrases that are often said. For such phrases, see the Dialogue section of the In-Jokes page.
In-world terminology[]
- The Gloat
The gloat occurs at the end of the con when the mark has been stung, arrested or subjected to the specific purpose of the con. At this time, the Leverage team members reveal themselves to the mark and sometimes deliver a verbal jab to make sure the mark knows exactly what happened to them. In other cases, simply showing up so the mark can see them is enough to make the point.
New member of Leverage International Harry Wilson said he hadn't been sure about participating in it, but once he had, he described it as "cathartic". Sophie Devereaux replied it was "an acquired taste".[1]
Filmmaking and background references[]
- Roundy round
A roundy round is a filmmaking technique where the camera circles the actors. In Leverage and Leverage: Redemption, it used when team are discussing the con as it currently stands. When the camera reverses direction, it designates that something has changed and the situation isn't what they thought it was.
Dean Devlin is particularly fond of the roundy round. John Rogers added one to an episode specifically for him, noting in the script, "You're welcome, Dean."(Citation needed)
